SDGN Current thoughts

With the recent release of SDGN PVP I have decided to try it out. Here are my thoughts:

  • PVE is currently disabled, which limits the number of units we can obtain at the moment.
  • S ranks, only 2 S ranked available at the moment, the Freedom and Justice units. Both units can only be bought using real cash at the moment.
  • The current PVP meta is ranged and kiting. Units like the Gundam Ground Type, G Self, O Gundam, Freedom, Virtue, Dynames, currently dominate in PVP matches. The reasoning behind this is that of the 3 current maps available, 1 of them is the Canyon, with large vertical ranges, ranged units can simply jump on and off the hills in order to kite and avoid melee units. The large areas on the ground are the best location for melee units to fight, however ranged units can easily shoot down from the hills. Players generally stay in 1 group, making melee approaches suicide, even in the other 2 maps which should be ideal for melee units.
  • The boost system needs work. Melee units do not have enough boost to go in and out. On top of that it seems that when you run out of boost mid flight, your character stops all movement when you land, until boost starts to regenerate. Melee boosts consume boost which is different from SDGO, which in my opinion is a bad change.
  • Ranged weaponry have terrible range! All ranged weapons with the exception of snipers have practically the same range, if not smaller. Homing missile units are practically useless, as the travel distance is also limited. Previously in SDGO it was possible to curve the trajectory of homing missiles over buildings and terrain. However now with the abysmal travel limits,  it is no longer possible. Bazookas/Missiles have a terrible time keeping up DPS vs Beam Rifles and Machine Guns.
  • SP Boost skill, what is the purpose of this?! It increases the SP accumulation when activated. Which requires 1/3 of the SP bar first. It is currently only available on 2 units, the Montero, and Zaku ll, both of which have melee specials. Because they have melee specials it isn’t even optimal to SP bomb with those 2 suits. Then considering their secondary skill, Attack up for Montero, and Increased SP Damage when below 30% HP for the Zaku ll, it seems the increased SP just leads to an earlier Attack up on Montero, which seems to be a pretty boring and inefficient combination of skills. The Zaku ll, upon looking at its skill set is a c rank suicide spec bomber!
  • The gachapon, or Lucky Store as it is called in game features 3 different ways to purchase. Paying with 50 TS or 10 Lucky Shop Coupons will reward you with the full unit. However for 300 gold you obtain a unit coupon. Combine 5 identical coupons and 100 gold to obtain the unit. You can also use a “Wildcard Coupon” which can act as any unit coupon, so long as you already own 1 of them. These “Wildcard Coupons” are bought using TS, which currently can only be obtained by purchasing packages from the cash store. Units and unit coupons can be sold to the store for 100 gold, regardless of rank.
  • Party system, why is my party disbanded every time I finish a PVP match?!
  • Currently for new players you can obtain 24 different units. 2 from the cash store being the Justice and Freedom units, 13 from the gachapon, 7 obtained from PVP quests, and 2 more the Dynames and Virtue obtained from after match rewards.
  • The after match rewards is totally rigged. You are presented with 4 possible rewards usually 25 gold, 50 gold, operator cards, or unit coupons ranging from C-A ranks, which is then “shuffled”. You can pick up to 2 of them. However chances are you will receive gold and gold, or gold and operator card.
